Second Class Township Government
Union Township operates under the Second Class Township Code of Pennsylvania, which governs the structure and powers of township government in the Commonwealth.
Township History & Leadership
Union Township was incorporated in 1753. The governing body consists of three elected Supervisors, each serving 6-year terms. Supervisors may be employed to work for the municipality.
The Township Manager is hired by the governing body and is responsible for day-to-day administration of the township. The Manager carries out policies set by the Board of Supervisors and oversees operations.
Township Classification
Pennsylvania townships are classified as either First Class or Second Class. A township may become First Class when its population density reaches 300 people per square mile. A voter referendum is required to change classification.
Union Township chooses to remain Second Class.
